What LexEye does
LexEye lets you highlight or select text on a page, shows an inline meaning popup, and optionally runs on-device OCR for screen selections.
Data we collect
We do not collect, store, sell, or share personal data.
- Selected text stays in the browser. It is only sent to
https://api.dictionaryapi.dev/ to fetch a definition.
- OCR is performed locally using the bundled Tesseract engine.
- Your saved words and enable/disable toggle are stored only in
chrome.storage.local on your device.
Permissions explained
- activeTab / scripting / <all_urls>: Needed to read the text you highlight and render the inline popup. Runs only on user action.
- offscreen: Runs OCR in a hidden offscreen document to avoid impacting the visible page.
- storage: Saves your saved words list and the on/off setting locally.
- Host permission: api.dictionaryapi.dev: Used solely to fetch definitions.
